Le Flash Atlanta

LE FLASH IS ALIVE AND WELL!

Special Announcement
July 8, 2010

Dear Atlanta,

As creators of Le Flash, we’re writing to thank Anne Dennington and the Flux Projects, Inc. Board of Directors for recently publishing a clarification of our unique identities. As you may be aware, there has been significant confusion over the nature of the relationship between our two separate endeavors. This confusion is most understandable given the widespread publication of erroneous statements such as Le Flash was “commissioned by Flux Projects,” and “the one night event, previously called Le Flash, has been renamed Flux.”

Our intent is to address uncertainty expressed by our constituents as well as by the artists and communities with whom we’ve worked over the past two years. In 2008, we created Le Flash, a one-night contemporary art installation and performance event designed especially for the Castleberry Hill district. Our concept became a reality because of Atlanta’s contemporary artists, local and international funding and the engagement of the Castleberry community led by the Castleberry Hill Neighborhood Association. In 2008, we achieved Le Flash through grants from the Fulton County Art Council, French Cultural Services, Atlanta’s Office of Cultural Affairs (OCA) and OCA’s Public Art Program, and with generous gifts from Gensler and neighborhood businesses, including Castleberry Point, No Mas!, Besharat Gallery, Pearl and Slice. Louis Corrigan, founder of Flux Projects, Inc., provided the principal funding for Le Flash 2009. We were thrilled to guide two highly successful productions of this event.

We’re committed to the preservation and protection of our intellectual property and we appreciate Flux Projects’ public acknowledgement that Le Flash has been and remains a separate entity, and that our trademarks and service marks remain the exclusive proprietary rights of Le Flash. We are confident that the unauthorized appropriation of our trademark will not continue, which we hope will eliminate any further misunderstanding as to the source of origin or the connection between these two separate organizations and artistic missions.

While we fully support Flux Projects’ efforts to offer opportunities for artists to produce public art projects in Atlanta throughout the year and we’re excited that the upcoming FLUX event will take place in the Castleberry community where Le Flash was born, we are not a sponsor of FLUX nor do we have any other formal affiliation with Flux Projects, Inc. or its Board of Directors. We do consider it a great tribute to Le Flash that Atlanta’s artists and art supporters, together with the Castleberry neighborhood, continue to embrace the presentation of a one-night contemporary art celebration.

Alive and well, Le Flash moves on with plans to present events in other cities. We offer our sincere thanks and best wishes to the Atlanta community that has made our work so fulfilling.

Sincerely,

Cathy Byrd and Stuart Keeler
