Curatorial Team

Cathy Byrd

A cultural activist, Cathy Byrd believes that public art and performance optimize communal encounters with contemporary art. She’s invested in collaborative artistic interventions and works to engage communities in the creative process.

From 2001 to 2009, Cathy directed the Georgia State University Ernest G. Welch School of Art and Design Gallery, Atlanta, where she conceived and organized programming that extended beyond the gallery walls and into the city.

Site-specific curatorial projects in Atlanta: Return of the Native Garden (2007 to present), by Atlanta artist Pandra Williams in Hurt Park, Ukrainian-French artist Kristina Solomoukha’s Mind the Gap Fountain (2008) and Le Flash, Atlanta (2008, 2009). Upcoming in Baltimore: Studio 218 and Saratoga Street Sounds.

Cathy is currently Executive Director of Maryland Art Place, Baltimore.

Stuart Keeler

Stuart Keeler is an artist of public spaces.  Challenging established curatorial constructs, he creates projects with a stronger link to social sculpture.

Is it “public art” or is it “art in public space?”  Having completed over 70 public art commissions nationally and internationally, Keeler believes this question opens up a conversation about the evolving sense of place in the city, and about the urban environment as a laboratory for new genre collaborations.

Recent and upcoming curatorial projects: A (new) Genre Landscape, City of Atlanta—Office of Cultural Affairs; Interiority,  Hyde Park Art Center, Chicago; Challenged, The Center for Context, London, UK,; Art 44/46, Chicago;  Liz Kohl,  Sammulstung Gallerie, Munich, Germany; Wordlfow, Santa Fe Public Library Public Art Collection, Santa Fe, NM; and Le Flash, Atlanta (2008, 2009).
